The Remember Nelson
Bicentenary Collection
from Royal Worcester
Nelson
& Emma Bicentenary Vases
in fine bone china
 |
|
Based
on traditional George III examples manufactured by Royal Worcester
in the early 19th century, this elegant pair of hand-painted fine
bone china vases reflects the essence of the Bicentenary Collection
– acknowledgement of Nelson’s heroism and, at last,
formal recognition of Emma’s place in history – alongside
Nelson. |
|
|
|
The
main image on the Nelson Vase is a hand-painted facsimile of one of the
most famous of all paintings of Nelson by Lemuel Francis Abbot, while
Emma’s image is taken from one of George Romney’s ‘Attitudes’.
The reverse of the
Nelson vase depicts a magnificent image of the Battle of Trafalgar, hand-painted
by Royal Worcester’s artists from JMW Turner’s atmospheric
original, while Emma’s vase shows the house at Merton, Surrey, which
was their home. Both vases are hand-decorated with cobalt blue and gold
in the traditional manner and initialled by the painter to indicate the
personalised nature of their delicate artistry.
Appropriately, each
vase is mounted on a base of Victory oak – material recovered from
HMS Victory during restoration – and comes with a signed Certificate
of Authenticity attesting to the provenance of the oak and the edition
number within the world-wide edition of just 47 pairs – one pair
commissioned for each year of Nelson’s life. (He was 47 when he
died at Trafalgar.)
Please note that
due to the historical importance of these vases – being the first
publicly available commemorative pieces to recognise the importance of
Emma, Lady Hamilton in Nelson’s life - they are being made available
only in matched numbered pairs.

Bicentenary Plate
in fine bone china

|
For
many collectors of commemorative china, there is no finer piece than
an exquisitely designed plate. This
magnificent 10½ inch fine bone china plate incorporates the
oak-leaf border plus gold rim and highlights which feature in many
of our Bicentenary pieces.

This new design,
by David Williams, reflects the ‘Nelson Service’ – the
service thought to have been used by Nelson at Merton. It includes a meticulously
researched and recreated version of Nelson’s Coat of Arms, the details
of which have been approved by the College of Arms which still holds the
original designs of the Admiral’s Grant of Arms.
The Coat of Arms
is surrounded by a commemorative inscription while the border incorporates
Nelson’s four crests – his Viscount’s Coronet (top);
his Ducal Coronet (right) – Nelson was made Duke of Bronte and indeed,
in the later years of his life, signed himself ‘Nelson & Bronte’;
the stern of the ‘San Josef’ (bottom) and the Naval Coronet
with Nelson’s famous diamond Chelengk (left).
Issued in a limited
edition of 1805, the plate bears a commemorative backstamp indicating
the edition limit and the individual number of the plate within the edition.
Each plate is accompanied
by a Certificate of Authenticity jointly signed by the Chairman of Remember
Nelson Limited and the Managing Director of Royal Worcester.

The
Trafalgar Bowl
in fine bone china and Victory Oak
Issued
in an edition of 822, dedicated to the courage and skill of the 822
crew members of HMS ‘Victory’ at Trafalgar
 |
 |
This
elegant fine bone china bowl makes a superb centre-piece for any
table or display, proudly celebrating Nelson’s life and
achievements.
Designed by David Williams, the main focus inside the bowl
is Nelson’s image*, resplendent in full dress uniform.
Taken from a modern interpretation of Sir William Beechey’s
famous painting, the image captures the essence of Nelson –
proud, defiant, patriotic and passionate.
Around
the central image are the 4 main battle scenes**– St Vincent,
Nile, Copenhagen and Trafalgar, interspersed with Nelson’s
4 principal orders – The Order of Bath, The Order of St
Joachim, The Order of St Ferdinand and Merit, and The Order
of the Crescent.
|
|
Around the outside
of the bowl are 4 descriptive panels providing information about each
of the 4 battles together with oval cartouches of Nelson and Emma.
By including Emma in this way, we recognise the important part she
played in Nelson’s life.
The bowl sits
on an elegant base of ‘Victory’ oak. The oak has been
recovered from HMS ‘Victory’ during refitting and thereby
provides an authentic link between the Bicentenary celebrations and
the momentous events of October 1805.
The bowl is being
issued in a limited edition of 822 worldwide. This number represents
the number of men on board HMS ‘Victory’ at Trafalgar
and each bowl is dedicated to their individual and collective courage
and skill. Each bowl is accompanied by a full list of ‘The Men
of Victory’ - the 822 names, ages and nationalities of those
who comprised the Muster Roll at Trafalgar. (Please note, orders will
be accepted in strict rotation on a first-come, first-served basis
and we cannot match individual names to specific orders)
